Caring About Strangers

A week ago, I was bored, and my boredom often leads me to very interesting places. This day in particular it took me to Matt's Facebook. To make it perfectly clear, I did not go on to his page to snoop in fear of finding out that Matt was having a scandalous affair! Again, boredom leads me to strange and interesting places.

What struck me, as I scrolled through the most recent posts, was one post from a woman. It seemed very somber and vague. I cannot remember what it said exactly, but I was prompted to go to her page and read more. What I found was a beautifully written blog by a mother who was fighting for her young daughter's life. Instantly I was sucked in to this tragic tale about a beautiful baby girl born with a terribly rare cancer who was fighting for her very existence. I couldn't help but cry as I imagined the pain that this poor child's family was enduring. I do not want to paraphrase too much of this family's story because it wouldn't do it justice. All I can say is that in California there is a small, new family of three that consists of two very strong parents and one very tough baby girl.

If you read this post, I ask that you please go to their blog and read baby Scarlett's story. I don't know these people. My husband grew up in some capacity with the mother, Brandi, but I have never personally met or spoke with this family. That doesn't matter though. I still want to hear that this child can beat the steep odds put before her, and so I guess the best way I can help is by making people aware. Good thoughts, prayers, hopes and donations are all ways to help.
